Autoimmune

Autoimmune diseases are a group of disorders that develop as a result of impaired immune tolerance mechanisms, when antibodies are produced against the body’s own tissues. Prolonged exposure leads to tissue damage or inflammation. Symptoms depend on whether one or multiple organs are affected.

Autoimmune diseases most commonly affect women under the age of 40. Currently, approximately 5–7% of the world’s population is considered to be at risk.

Laboratory diagnostics help physicians detect the disease at early stages and initiate timely treatment.

Indications for testing include:

  • diagnosis when autoimmune disease is suspected;
  • monitoring of disease progression;
  • evaluation of treatment effectiveness.

Preparation for laboratory testing includes the following recommendations:

  • refrain from food intake for 12 hours prior to the test;
  • avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours before blood sampling;
  • abstain from smoking for at least 1 hour before the test.
